Hi, I have been looking at wedding dresses online all day, and seem to be finding no plus size options that look like they have the same body type as me! Is there anyone else out there who is around 160 cm with broad shouldres and have measurements close to 42 inch bust, 35 inch waist and 41 inch hips? I am going to be looking with my future mother in law, but our tastes run in totally different directions. I am also a bit pale with green eyes and brown hair, and any colouring suggestions would be appretiated also.
Thanks heaps

Just get a large size gown and tailor it so the waist is smaller.
I am around your size, and I found my dress at David’s Bridal. go to then type in style T9211.
I never would’ve thought it’d look good, but it does! Especially since it has a corset back and sweetheart neckline, so it works with my body, not against it.
Oh, and make sure you try it on with a crinoline under it, it hides everything!
You need to go to a bridal shop and talk to them about it. Most brides get their dresses tailored to their body type, so the dress size isn’t as important, just as long as it’s not too small. When in doubt, order a larger dress and get it taken in where it needs to be taken in.
I’ve got a pretty similar figure. You could find stuff at david’s bridal , not to mention that they do actual alterations. There are a few sites with plus size dresses, I suggest going with a dress with a sash or color in the dress. IF you mean coloring your hair… you sound fine as is
.
That’s basically my measurements (don’t know about the cm – i can’t figure that out for the life of me. – but I am a DDD cup) I went with an a line dress that was off the shoulder to break up my arm. It made them look smaller.
This is basically the dress I wore – (i had the David’s Bridal version but it is discontinued there now) It looked nice on. The dresses that were strapless or halter made me look bigger on top. The halter ones made me look like a football player! Short sleeves made my arms and top look fatter. This dress( or one very similar) – which I thought would be flattering looked terrible. It made my bust look too big.
My advice to you is to try on all different kinds of styles. Even ones that you might not think you’d like. You never know what will end up looking good on you.
I just looked up the cm thing and I am 160 cm too or 5′3″. My suggestion – if you have a David’s Bridal near you go there. Even if you don’t want to buy your dress from them, the nice thing is you can try dresses on in your size which makes a big difference. Most bridal stores the dresses are a 12 and they pin them to you. You may be able to find the style you like and then go and find a dress somewhere else with all of the details you want.
i am right around those measurements too. i had a hard time finding a dress – it always seemed to fit fine except for the bust area was too tight.
i ended up finding a dress at Chadwicks. I ordered it from chadwicks.com. they don’t have ‘wedding gowns’ per say, but they have tons of formal white dresses, so it worked.
I have a similar figure- I would choose a corset bodice, no strapless, and no satin. I agree that Davids Bridal has some good ones but just go and try some on. Good luck
I agree with the others that you need a corsetted top and definately no strapless! I also have wide shoulders and these are some dresses I know would suit me…
The wider strapped halter neck can work well…
Or the classic v-neck…
I love this one as it brings the eye down to the waist…
Actually this style works quite well because it lengthens the shoulders instead of widening them like a strapless or square neck…
As far as colour I would suggest an ivory dress would be fine… I would need to see a pic though. Just go and try on some different shades and see what suits you best. Here is an article you may be interested in?
