First and foremost, your fiance asked you to marry him just as you are at this moment. The only opinion that matters in all of this, however, is yours. Small, curvy, plus, waif, who cares....to thine ownself be true! Don't try to fit somebody's wedding day expectations. Don't let a bunch of insecure women steal your joy because they can't find anything better to entertain their small brains. This is your and your fiance's time. Don't let a few ignorant comments detract from what's most important to celebrate.......the love that got you here! He loves you! He CHOSE you! You CHOSE him! Leave all of that mess where it belongs......beneath your feet. It doesn't even warrant a second thought.

*Side note* : My husband said that he likes curves. He said he prefers women to look like women and not boys. Big curves, little curves, who cares....it's all beautiful.

Congrats on the wedding! May is such a great month to get married. Good luck to you both, and I hope this helps! :o)

What matters that day is that you feel beautiful and that your husband looks at you like you are the only other person in the room. How you look that day is going to depend on how you feel. If you are truly happy, in love and feel so much joy just being with your husband then you are going to look beautiful.
There is a difference between a bride who looks happy and in love then a bride who doesn't. When you look back on the pictures just look at your smile and how happy you are to be with the person you are going to love for the rest of your life. If you feel that you are going to be comfortable being just the way you are right now, then you are going to be fine. Just don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I was the type of person who has just always been self conscious about my weight, so I definitely dieted...however, I found that on that day it was the last thing on my mind.
So, don't worry. As long as you are comfortable with yourself then you are going to look beautiful!

WIth all of these shows about weddings, bridezillas, brides working out to get thinner for their wedding, etc. I feel that its become a trend right now to "diet for your wedding" - the "IN" thing to do.
What makes a woman beautiful is how she carries herself, not her weight. If she dresses appropriately and feels confident, then it really doesn't matter if she is "overweight" as long as she is mentally and physically healthy. I think the fashion business and people in general are starting to realize this too, it is just a very slow process.

(Personally I would rather eat some of the foods I love and not work out too much, than only to eat a packet of oatmeal a day and work out for hours every day...like two of the size 6 girls at my work - no thanks!)

I am a size 18 right now..trying to get to 180, I weigh 210...just so I am comfortable with myself after the birth of my daughter - and so I can be more active.
Anyways, my best friend who wears a 10-12 and I both did that real age test on realage.com and guess what? I am only a year and a half older than my actual 30 years of age - because I eat good foods and have been virtually the same weight since my late teens.
Her test results scored her 3 years older than her actual age and part of it has to do with the spurts of working out and losing a bit of weight and then gaining it back. And not eating as good.

SOme times I get self conscious with the two girls here at work..they see me eat "so much" every day and look at me like I am some sort of fat pariah. Guess what? I eat almost 1800 calories a day and am losing weight..ha!

You need to give her some guidelines - just tell her that the wedding is going to be fairly conservative and she needs to look for dresses with some kind of wide strap or sleeve, and they need to be cocktail or tea-length (anywhere from just below the knee to mid-calf).

If the only dresses she can find are strapless/spaghetti strap, just have your girls (both of them, for fairness) wear a light pashmina wrap or little jacket over their dresses during the ceremony and for the formal photos. This might be a good way to compromise.

As a three time plus size bridesmaid, I will tell you that the best dress I've worn was a simple, strapless, thick satin dress. The other dresses I wore were okay but one was very fitted (not very flattering) and the other was chiffon and not AT ALL flattering. Yes, it's flowy but it also lays on every bump and bulge. Keep it simple, keep it long, and make sure they try them on for you to see!

Good luck to you!

I dont think plus is necessarily more OR less beautiful. Some other posters seem to think that plus size is more beautiful, and I think that is equally wrong to say. Some people have healthy lifestyles and are therefore naturally thin- are they less beautiful because they are thin?
If you are overweight, you know you are and its up to you to make lifestyle changes. Dieting for the wedding only is not the way to go.
So to answer your question- no, plus size brides are not less beautiful (neither are thin ones) and yes I agree, dieting just for the wedding is silly and is just going to end up in dissappointment when the weight comes back.

No way! I've seen beautiful thin brides, but I've seen more beautiful brides that are plus size. The most beautiful part of a bride is the happiness she radiates anyways :)

You are being very considerate, which is really nice. I went through the same thing with my bridesmaids - but they found a lovely dress which flattered both the smaller women and the plus one. It had a short sleeve, and the best thing of all was a basque waist.
Some ideas - and by the way, I like wine for dresses - you can match lovely flowers and decorations using that colour, including sage as an accent - and do not have strapless for them!
I think this is a great site, with options -
This is really beautiful -
I like this, too

I'm not quite sure if the problem is that you need a dress for both of them or if you're supposed to be approving each dress that they're wearing, and they are independently making bad choices. What I did for my bridal attendants (all female) was that I had everyone tell me what they would be willing to wear. As it turned out, they were all ok with sleeveless dresses. I took the information that I had been sent, and then made a list of what was OK in a dress. (My list was along the lines of not form fitting, ankle-length, wide straps). Perhaps you could consider what the problems with the dresses your bridesmaids are picking are, and then giving guidelines that should avoid those problems.
